Carrefour enters exclusive talks to sell Romania operations to Paval Holding
Carrefour has officially announced that it has entered exclusive negotiations with Paval Holding for the sale of its entire Romanian business, in a transaction valued at approximately 823 million euros.
The move is part of Carrefour’s strategic portfolio review launched in early 2025, as the French retail group continues to streamline operations and focus on its core markets.
Carrefour Romania operates 478 stores nationwide, including hypermarkets, supermarkets, convenience, and discount formats. The company generated gross sales of 3.2 billion euros in 2024 and represents around 3.5 percent of the Group’s global revenue. For 2025, Carrefour Romania estimates net sales of 2.7 billion euros, EBITDA of 173 million euros, and recurring operating profit of 29 million euros.
The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to be completed in the second half of 2026.
Paval Holding is the investment vehicle of Romanian entrepreneurs Adrian and Dragos Paval, owners of Dedeman, the country’s leading DIY retailer. Beyond retail, the Paval brothers have significant investments in energy, industry, agriculture, real estate, and companies listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
Carrefour operates in around 40 countries worldwide, with direct operations in seven key markets, including Romania.
