New electronic toll system to be introduced for the Giurgiu-Ruse Bridge
The Giurgiu–Ruse bridge over the Danube is set to receive a modern electronic toll collection system, following the selection of Altimate, a company within the UTI Group, as the winner of the tender launched by the National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration.
Initially estimated at nearly one million lei excluding VAT, the contract was awarded for 844,500 lei excluding VAT and will be financed from CNAIR’s own revenues. The project includes the delivery and commissioning of all necessary hardware and software within a maximum period of six months.
The new system will feature two dedicated traffic lanes equipped with high-speed barriers, allowing vehicles to pass quickly based on prior online payment recognition. Authorities expect this solution to significantly ease traffic congestion at the border by shortening waiting times for drivers.
Other bidders included Web Win Group Net and Technohub. Altimate is majority-controlled by TIU Holdings and is part of the UTI Group, a leading Romanian provider of integrated technology solutions.
