About BRCC

On 10 September, 2003, 31 executives from major Bulgarian and Romanian companies met in Ruse to establish the organisation.

The motivation: addressing the pressing business challenges of the time, including poor transport connectivity, strict border controls and high crossing fees for the sole bridge between Bulgaria and Romania (in Ruse), a lack of connections between companies and institutions in both countries, and disparities in business legislation.

The largest exhibition center in Romania (then) - Romexpo recognized the Bulgarian-Romanian Chamber of Commerce as a partner and invited it as its official representative for Bulgaria at several of the most visited exhibitions.

The task of the Chamber is to promote among Bulgarian companies the possibilities of using exhibition space during the exhibitions, as well as all the accompanying services offered by ROMEXPO.

The partnership continues to this day, with hundreds of companies taking their first steps in Romania precisely through the exhibitions in the capital, Bucharest.

Since its early years, one of the most in-demand services has been communication assistance in Romanian. The high demand from companies has often exceeded the capacity of the Chamber’s translators.

To address this, Romanian language courses were introduced, helping more managers confidently communicate with their counterparts north of the Danube.

These courses remain highly popular and are now offered through the Chamber's Center for Professional Training, established in 2018.

 ECO-FORCE – A Joint Initiative for Environmentally Responsible Cross-Border Companies" aimed to encourage major polluters in the cross-border region to adopt more environmentally friendly practices.

The project, carried out in partnership with four Bulgarian and Romanian associations, was funded by the Bulgaria-Romania Cross-Border Cooperation Programme.

The inaugural investment forum of its kind showcased the vision for the development of the municipalities of Ruse, Giurgiu, and Bucharest, emphasizing the competitive advantages of the expansive metropolitan region.

Attendees included representatives from foreign diplomatic missions, European institutions, legal and financial firms, as well as major investors in the region, such as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

After years of operating in rented facilities, the Chamber secured its own office in the heart of Ruse.

Located at 12-14 Voevodova St., the office is open to anyone wishing to meet the team, ask questions, or obtain information related to the business environment in Romania and Bulgaria.

While the main team is based in the Ruse office, the locations in Sofia and Bucharest are also readily accessible.

 
"DANTE – Improving the Administrative Procedures and Processes Related to the Danube Waterway Transport" funded under the Danube Transnational Cooperation Program 2014-2020, was implemented by a diverse consortium of 28 partners from 10 countries, led by Pro Danube International from Austria. This is the first project in which the Chamber participates that extends beyond the countries of Bulgaria and Romania.

The project resulted in the European Commission adopting unified rules, documents, and procedures for the passage of vessels on the Danube.

For the first time since its establishment, BRCC's membership network has expanded to include 100 companies actively engaged in the Bulgarian-Romanian business community. For another consecutive year, Romania remains Bulgaria's second-largest trading partner, thanks in part to the dedicated individuals within the Chamber.

In the spring of 2024, the General Assembly of the Bulgarian-Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry voted to rename the organization the Bulgarian-Romanian Chamber of Commerce. This decision was followed by a rebranding phase, which included the creation of a new website and visual identity.
